There will be traditional Easter festivities, special church services, and the scent of flaounes baking and lamb roasting in the air.
In Paphos, the Holy Week leading up to Easter is full of religious processions, including the Good Friday procession, where locals walk through the streets holding candles. There is a midnight mass on Saturday with people gathering from 11:00 p.m. onwards. Festivities include bonfires, fireworks and celebrating the resurrection. Don’t be alarmed or surprised if fireworks go on until the early hours of the morning! Once home, families eat a traditional soup of avgolemoni (egg and lemon). Easter Sunday will be a joyous occasion, marked by family gatherings, barbecues, and feasts of delicious Cypriot specialities like lamb, souvla, and koulouria (Easter cookies). Business Hours in Cyprus During the Easter Holiday
Please note that many businesses in Cyprus will be closed from April 18th (Good Friday) through Tuesday, April 22nd as part of the Easter holiday celebrations. During this period, local shops, banks, and other businesses may have reduced hours or be closed entirely. If you are planning to visit Paphos during this time, make sure to plan ahead, as many locals will be celebrating with their families.
Cyprus Weather: Springtime Splendor
April brings beautiful spring weather to Cyprus, with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures. It can still be chilly at night, so if you go out for the late-night Easter events or other festivities, a light jacket would be recommended.
