Marathounda is located in the hills, 5 km to the north of Paphos. It is an area well known for its natural, rugged beauty and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea sparkling in the distance. This village is for those seeking a quieter lifestyle but at the same time would like to be within easy driving distance to the town of Paphos (7 – 8 minutes) and to the sea (14 minutes approx.). It takes only 6 minutes from Marathounda to access the main highway going to the Paphos airport, and linking the towns of Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia.
Local traditions and the old ways are still very much alive in Marathounda and visitors are always warmly and graciously welcomed.The village has a local taverna where grilled meat, fish, fries, Greek salad, dips, wine, beer and soft drinks are served at a very reasonable cost. However, for groceries and other supplies you would probably need to go into Paphos, although there are a couple of village stores in the neighbouring village of Konia which sell basic items.
A new, purpose built, centre is to be opened shortly in Marathounda providing sports, a snack bar and various other activities of interest for children and teenagers living in the village.
There is a regular bus service between Marathounda and Paphos and ALL school children (upon presentation of their school photo ID) may ride the public buses free to anywhere on the island.
